Art Blakey Museum
Art Blakey Museum
Graphic Design / Brochure, 2022
This is another assignment that was for my jazz course and the objective was to produce a brochure for a museum of an artist that we selected. My group and I selected the late drummer, Art Blakey. For the cover of the brochure, I wanted it to be a typography heavy design to let the viewer know what exactly they were looking at. They read the name and then followed the design down to the picture to know who it is. At the bottom of the page are again the requirements of the project adding the date of the limited event and other things.
On the next page, we were to create a summary paragraph of the artist himself as well as a layout of the rooms of the museum. I wanted to stay on the theme of the retro look with similar shapes and icons. Moving onto the next page were the summaries of what was going to be "displayed" in each room of the room layout presented. Again, I wanted to have typography but not too much to distract from the main text of the summaries. So I did something similar to the music festival poster design and displayed transparent typography in the background.
Some things I struggled with or needed to be touched upon are the layout of the third page and using too many typefaces. Throughout my years in university, I haven't had a class solely based on laying out a document. So throughout this process, it was trial and error, moving things around as I saw fit. Something that was honed in on was using too many typefaces in one design space. I believe I used a maximum of four and did so sparingly. There is one typeface that I might've exchanged for a different one for legibility purposes but other than that I liked the other typefaces used.
I never printed this out in the brochure format but I do believe that it would be better displayed in a pamphlet format to better present the information.
