This was the assignment where I really got acquainted with Adobe Photoshop. I developed more skills like the clone stamp tool, the pen tool, and the brush. The objective of this assignment was to create an illusion. I hit an artist's block when looking at references for other illusion pieces online because I just didn't know what I wanted to do. After a few days of just putting things down and removing them, I settled on a landscape piece.
I used the website Unsplash.com to find high-resolution images to use and I came upon the ladies you see at the bottom. Moving up from the ladies are three separate landscape images consisting of a mountain valley, canyons, and snow mountains. I liked the idea of making these different scenes come together as one. The sky is an image of the Northern Lights and hidden in the trail of light is a river. I wanted to connect the water and the coral reef so I blended the river into the sky using the brush tool which helped me tremendously. After stepping away from the piece to look at it from a different angle, it was missing something. I didn't know what that something was until my professor gave me the suggestion of making the ladies look like a foreground of the mountains. From there I used the same technique of the brush and blending to make the ladies look like rocks.
Giving the piece a title was not too much work in that what I was looking at looked like something from a dream. I titled it Dreamstate because I believe you can only see something like this in your dreams but tell me if I'm wrong.
